Our Community
South Darley is a small school with a big community. Our families come from across Darley Dale, Matlock and the surrounding villages, drawn by a school where everyone knows your name and every family matters.
The Friends of South Darley School (FOSDS) is our parent group — and every family is automatically a member from the day their child starts. FOSDS brings families together through events throughout the year, from Christmas fairs and cake sales to village walks and seasonal celebrations, while raising funds for school projects. New families are welcomed with a FOSDS Welcome Walk — it's one of the ways our small school community makes sure nobody feels like the new arrival for long.
Our long-running Kolkata Partnership connects our children with schools in India — staff visit regularly and the children exchange ideas and experiences, broadening their understanding of the wider world.
As a Church of England school, our links with St Mary's Church are woven through school life, from nativity services to harvest celebrations. We also work closely with South Darley Parish Council and other local organisations.
