Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is additional government funding to help schools make sure every child has the same opportunities to succeed, regardless of their background.

At South Darley, we believe that every child is unique and special. Our Pupil Premium strategy focusses on helping all children to flourish by making sure they have the support, opportunities and encouragement they need to thrive.

How we use Pupil Premium funding

We use our Pupil Premium funding across three areas:

Smaller classes and targeted support. Part of our funding helps maintain the smaller class sizes that benefit all our children. Our teaching assistants provide targeted support within lessons and one-to-one help where it is needed, while our Year 6 pupils benefit from additional maths booster sessions.

Enrichment and opportunity. No child at South Darley misses out because of their family's circumstances. Pupil Premium children can apply for help with the cost of school trips and residentials, and they have access to free individual music tuition — because we believe learning an instrument builds confidence and aspiration as well as skill.

Wellbeing and emotional resilience. We provide a nurture space (our Lavender Room) where children can talk through difficulties with a trusted adult. Our staff are trained in supporting children's mental health, including through the PINS programme for neurodiverse learners. We work closely with families and, where needed, with the Lady Manners Early Help Team to make sure children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

In 2024/25, our Pupil Premium children progressed at a rate in line with their peers, attendance for disadvantaged pupils remained high, and every child took part in the full range of school activities and opportunities.

Pupil Premium strategy statement

Schools are required to publish their Pupil Premium strategy, showing how the funding is spent and the impact it has. Our current three-year strategy (2025–2028) is available to read below.
